Empowering Parenting Programme

A newly trained team of volunteers are providing additional support to parents through Empowering Parents Empowering Communities (EPEC).

The FREE half-day sessions that we offer, will help you bring up confident, happy and co-operative children.

We first began in Burnley and following 2 successful courses with positive feedback received we are now extending it to East Lancashire.

👪 Could you be an EPEC ‘Parent Group Leader’?

We are again recruiting volunteers for our Empowering Parent Empowering Communities (EPEC) Parent Group Leader (PGL) training which will be delivered across East Lancs.

The course is delivered over 10 FREE half day virtual sessions – see flyer here.

So what is EPEC?

 Helpful strategies for family life

EPEC is a unique and innovative programme run by parents, supported by professionals, and offers parent volunteers and parents the opportunity to share experiences and support others in the community.

“Helping you invest in yourself…so you can invest in your children.”

Gabbi Lister, Volunteer Parent Group Leaders said, “The course has been a real eye opener, it has helped me develop skills and strategies that I am really embracing.”

Rachael Whittaker, Volunteer Parent Group Leader said, “Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to share our experiences to help other parents in the community – I can’t wait to start getting stuck in with delivering the course.”

EPEC has been running for over 15 years, training hundreds of Volunteer Parent Group Leaders in more than 25 areas across the United Kingdom.

Lancashire Healthy Young People and Families Service, run by HCRG Care Group, has worked closely with Lancashire County Council and Lancashire Violence Reduction Network to secure funding, and deliver the parenting programme.

Michelle Lee, Managing Director of HCRG Care Group in Lancashire said, “Huge congratulations to our new Parent Group Leaders. This is a real achievement as all recruitment and training has been done virtually. We are proud to support families across Lancashire and provide services dedicated to their needs. EPEC is a proven programme, and the outcomes are clearly shown through a robust evaluation programme illustrating the impact on all those who get involved. I look forward to seeing the programme continue to grow as we support more parents and train more volunteers to make a real difference to the lives of the people in our community.”

Detective Chief Superintendent Sue Clarke, Head of Lancashire Violence Reduction Network said, “As Head of the Lancashire Violence Reduction Network I am absolutely delighted to hear of the training of these parent leaders for Burnley. This group will be a real asset to the community. EPEC is well evidenced to help parents to be better equipped to give their children the best start in life. This is part of the wider approach to improving resilience in our communities across Lancashire.”

County Councillor Michael Green, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said, “We are extremely pleased that this programme will now be able to help even more people. Working closely with partners and parents is key to how we can help to improve the lives of adults and children across Lancashire. Well done to everyone who has been involved in making this additional support available in Burnley.”
